The film 'Returning Home: Sister, Let's Go Home Now' successfully concluded its special screening in Osaka and will hold a special screening at the National Assembly.
'Returning Home: Sister, Let's Go Home Now' (written and directed by Cho Jung-rae, produced by J.O Entertainment, distributed by Connect Pictures), which confirmed its release on August 26, successfully held a special screening in Osaka, Japan on July 28, a city filled with the breath of history. Following this, a special National Assembly screening will be held on August 3, hosted by Representatives Song Young-gil, Kwon Chil-seung, and Kim Yong-man, and organized by the Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance for the Issues of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan, Nanum, the Civic Meeting with Comfort Women Grandmothers, and the Busan Women's Council.
'Returning Home: Sister, Let's Go Home Now' is an expanded version of 'Returning Home,' which created a miracle with the support of 75,000 citizens and the tears of 3.58 million viewers in 2016, featuring a newly added 6-minute unreleased scene commemorating the 10th anniversary. By adding the stories of Asian women who experienced the same suffering, it captures the cross-border solidarity of girls who, even in a hopeless reality, held onto each other's hands while thinking of their homes to return to.
On the 28th, special screenings were held three times at the Bellino Fusse 5th Floor Multipurpose Hall in Osaka, Japan. Director Cho Jung-rae, Kang Ha-na, a 4th-generation Korean-Japanese playing Jung-min, and Jung Moo-sung, a 2nd-generation Korean-Japanese playing Kinoshita, attended and engaged in conversation with the audience. All three screenings filled over 150 seats and drew enthusiastic responses. This screening was made possible through the sponsorship and dedication of Kim Min-su, a 3rd-generation Korean-Japanese representative of 'Geundal Daloreum Theater Troupe,' who has publicized the comfort women issue with the production company locally.
Through a congratulatory video message, Kang Ha-na expressed her wish for as many people as possible to watch the film and show warm interest. Jung Moo-sung expressed his earnest hope that the honor of the Japanese military comfort women victims would be restored as soon as possible.
The special National Assembly screening, held ahead of Liberation Day, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on August 3 in the Large Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Hall. This will be the first domestic premiere screening of the expanded version with the additional 6 minutes of unreleased footage.
Currently, there are only 5 surviving victims of Japanese military comfort women. This special National Assembly screening carries the intention of paying deeper attention to historical responsibility and truth-finding and honor restoration for victims, and hopes to lead to voluntary participation by the public.
'Returning Home: Sister, Let's Go Home Now,' which successfully concluded its Osaka screening and previewed the National Assembly screening, will be released nationwide on August 26 on Culture Day.
