Actor Ji Sung's leading drama 'Apartment' signaled promising box office performance by topping Netflix's charts in its first week of broadcast.
The second episode of JTBC's Saturday-Sunday drama 'Apartment' (written by Kim Yun-young, directed by Cho Yong-won, produced by SLL and Red Nine Pictures), which aired on the 12th, recorded a peak ratings of 6.5% per minute and a national average of 5.4%, setting its own highest viewership record and ranking first among Sunday non-terrestrial programs. Simultaneously, it also ranked first on the global OTT platform Netflix's 'Top 10 Series in South Korea.'
'Apartment' is a life-oriented human drama in which Ji Sung, playing Park Hae-gang, a former boss of the Oasis faction who runs for chairman of the residents' representative council to receive hidden money, works with residents to root out corruption. In the previous broadcast, Park Hae-gang's decision to run for apartment chairman with 17.8 billion won in long-term repair reserve funds at stake in order to save Park Yong-man, played by Jung Jin-young, who is trapped in a detention center was depicted. He enters into a fake marriage contract with Ha Yoon-kyung, who plays Kang Ha-ri, and recruits his former organization members, including Kim Won-hae who plays Lizard, to form a fake family of seven, signaling the beginning of an earnest election battle.
Additionally, Park Byung-eun, playing Lee Chung-won, signaled the arrival of a villain who appears mild on the surface but harbors madness underneath, while Moon So-ri, playing Jang Sook-jin, previewed the realistic appearance of a resident. Baek Hyun-jin, playing current chairman Seo Gang-won, shamefully threatens Ryu Hyun-kyung, who plays Kang Ha-jung, revealing complex interests between the characters.
The production team stated, "If episodes 1 and 2 were solid build-ups to set the stage, then from episode 3 this week, the real game will kick off in full, revolving around the 17.8 billion won in long-term repair reserves that no one can predict even a moment ahead." They added, "The former boss's ingenious territory control tactics will unfold against unexpected spaces, delivering genre-specific pleasure filled with catharsis."
Riding the wave of success, the third episode of 'Apartment' will air on July 18 at 10:40 p.m.
