MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Housewife Killer' captivated viewers with a peak viewership rating of 9.4% for its first broadcast.
In the first episode of MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Housewife Killer' (Planning: Kwon Sung-chang / Screenplay: Kim Eun-hee / Direction: Yoon Jong-ho, Kim Ji-hoon / Production: Bonpictory, Baram Pictures, Studio Fim), Yoo Bo-na (played by Gong Hyo-jin), who leads a precarious double life between an ordinary housewife and legendary sniper Kingfisher, unveiled her secrets. The viewership rating reached 7.4% based on Nielsen Korea's nationwide household ratings and 6.8% for the Seoul metropolitan area, achieving first place across all channels during the time slot. The scene where Kwon Tae-sung (played by Jung Jun-won) learns of Kingfisher's return through news and falls into shock surged to a peak of 9.4%.
The first broadcast opened with a scene from 15 years ago where, as Oh Man-seok (played by Kim Won-hae), who was released from prison, attempts to strangle his daughter Oh Seung-a (played by Do Young-seo), Yoo Bo-na shoots him from the opposite rooftop with a sniper rifle. Seung-a rushes to the scene and bursts into tears upon seeing the message "Merry Christmas" left in the snow, leaving a strong impact.
Fifteen years later, Yoo Bo-na now leads an ordinary life with her husband Kwon Tae-sung and daughter Kwon Yul (played by Hwang Bom). While endlessly affectionate in front of her family, she reveals her exceptional nature by catching a falling cup with one hand and precisely subduing a sexual harasser with groceries. Meanwhile, journalist Kwon Tae-sung receives a drug tip and witnesses a dropper vehicle explosion in Musan. After persistent investigation, he discovers the victim is not a simple dropper operator but a drug lord.
Yoo Bo-na returns to work as a manager of the sales team 3 at Durumy Electronics after a three-year parental leave. When asked by team leader Kim Bong-pal (played by Sung Dong-il) to attend a client meeting, she declares a daytime meeting, saying she needs to pick up her child. She then shocks viewers by precisely eliminating a target in the opposite hotel from the church rooftop with a sniper rifle. Subsequently, the mysterious man at the Musan vehicle explosion site is revealed to be Kim Bong-pal, delivering another shock.
In a conversation with flower shop owner Bae Yun-ok (played by Seo Jung-yeon) about the flower language of marguerites, Yoo Bo-na crosses between her past in an orphanage, her time living as a killer, and the moment she confessed her love to Kwon Tae-sung, adding depth to the narrative. At the end of the broadcast, as Kwon Tae-sung trembles with anxiety upon hearing news of Kingfisher's return alongside a firearms incident, Yoo Bo-na receives a warning letter containing a family photo and a church rooftop sniper shot from a mysterious person, completing a thrilling ending.
The Kakao Webtoon-based MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Housewife Killer,' which received enthusiastic responses for its fast-paced portrayal of Yoo Bo-na's daily life and killer missions, will air its second episode today (1st) at 9:50 p.m.
